My son says I have no plan!

It’s his birthday Sunday, and my last conversation with him was ‘challenging.’ I shared the highlights with my ex-husband — we are good friends — but my son had got to him first! My ex just laughed.

I think that is so unfair. I mean, I don’t expect to live forever. But right now, even though I’m a Canadian girl who spent the last twenty years in Mexico, I’m currently in Istanbul, Turkey. And if you ask me will I spend my golden years in Istanbul, unlikely — unless I learn the language. Or, at the very least, the essential words required for eldercare. “So, what’s the plan, mom?”

I was rather upset with my son’s attitude. I have two sons. One in Canada, the other in France. As you can see we are an international group. Neither of them would be in a position to handle me in my old age — but I cannot focus on the answer to this question. Financially, I sent a one-page email to my son telling him what I had done with my ‘assets’. Easy. No need for lawyers or trustees. That’s a plan.
