I have a plot, the beginning, middle and end; but how do I write the story?

Is this a familiar problem for you as an aspiring writer?

I’ve published 16 books and am working on 17 — a memoir, and 18 — Code Raven 8. I have absolutely no idea how my books will end.

It sounds to me like you have it covered unless your skillset is not in writing a story but possibly writing a screenplay. Ask yourself what’s the most fun part of the whole project? Maybe you could work with a partner.

However, what happens in between the elements you have mentioned is called living. You must bring your story alive. Here are a few thoughts for you

  • Characters. We want to read about the people in your book. So if you have a story, it must have characters. Who are they, what do they look like, any quirks? Are education and background important to the story? How did they get in the predicament that created your story? Make me feel empathy or disgust.
  • Everyday life. What’s going on to make this story compelling to your reader? What are their fears and dangers? Show me the emotions of a boring or exciting life. Who are your people, what do they look like, what do they do?
  • Settings and descriptions. My readers always mention how I make them feel like they are in Puerto Vallarta, or the mountains…
