“When you write a memoir, there’s no place to hide.”

Throughout my crazy life, my friends have told me I should write my memoir. Not to offend, and in the interest of total transparency, I may have left out the juicy stuff!

In 2008 I was given six months to live.

LOVE the Beat Goes On, my first memoir, took me several years before I could come to terms with sharing such a personal journey. I knew I would open myself to criticism— after all, it’s not every day that miracles happen. But I’ve spent a lifetime managing myself and others, so I knew if my story gave even one person hope, it would be worth opening myself to the world.

The reception to that memoir was both fantastic and sometimes hurtful.

But I knew when I published my personal story; some would be critical. So I toughened up my freckled skin and ignored the naysayers! The greatest authors in the world receive bad reviews. And as far as memoirs go, EAT PRAY LOVE by Elizabeth Gilbert mesmerized a generation of women who felt trapped and lost in their lives. Some didn’t like her story. And it’s even more difficult for an author when someone is criticizing your life!
